He then went on to perform his internship in internal medicine at St Barnabas Hospital in 1984, and his residency in internal medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in 1987. This was followed by additional fellowships in rheumatology and nephrology at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in 1989 and 1991, respectively. 

A member of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys.
