Get to know Pharmacist Joshua Shumway, who serves patients in Colorado.

New York City, New York Feb 20, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - Joshua is a pharmacist-in-charge with Axis Health System Cortez Integrated Healthcare & Axis Health System Dove Creek Integrated Healthcare in Colorado.

His duties and responsibilities include managing and overseeing the 340B program; conducting the monthly 340B audit for HRSA compliance; designing and implementing 3 pharmacies; collaborating with clinic providers to provide the best patient care possible; sitting on incidence, grievance, and risk counsel; establishing DORA state compliance with all clinics; hiring and supervising all pharmacy technicians; and serving as a consultant pharmacist for sister clinics. He also opened the first tele-pharmacy in the state of Colorado; established 3rd party insurance contracts; tested and updated pharmacy software for all clinic pharmacies; established licensed med rooms for dispensing; and titled Person in Charge for HRSA/OPA compliance.

Among his teaching activities, Joshua has been serving as a Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy at Northeast Ohio Medical University since October 2018. He leads students in topic discussions, evaluates clinical performance, and lectures on pharmacy management.

Likewise, he is a pharmacist preceptor at the said establishment, instructing and guiding pharmacy students in developing and maintaining clinical service standards. He also assesses students' skills and provides evaluations based on performance. 

In regards to his educational background, Joshua graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Utah Valley University College of Science in 2010. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the College of Pharmacy at Northeast Ohio Medical University in 2016.

Throughout his clinical and academic line of work, he has served as the pharmacy manager at Rite Aid Store #2388 in Canton, Ohio (May 2017 - May 2022); the pharmacy manager at CVSHealth #3980 in Kent, Ohio (March 2021 - July 2021); a staff pharmacist at Rite Aid Store #2404 in Alliance, Ohio (August 2016 - May 2017); a pharmacy intern at Rite Aid Store #2408 in Louisville, Ohio (December 2015 - August 2016); a pharmacy intern at a K-Mart Pharmacy in Streetsboro, Ohio (June 2013 - December 2015), a preceptor at Northeast Ohio Medical University (Spring 2015); a teaching assistant for the pharmaceutical laboratory at Northeast Ohio Medical University (Fall 2013); and as an anatomy student teaching assistant at Utah Valley University (August 2008 - April 2009). 

His additional work experience includes serving as a laboratory technician II at Myriad Genetics (2/2011 - 08/2012), a tire and lube technician at Wal-Mart (08/2009 - 08/2012), an assistant data center manager at PGM Inc. (12/2005 - 08/2009), and as the agriculture supervisor at Aposhian Sod Farm (05/2005 - 08/2005).

Licensed by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, Joshua holds a Rite Aid Leadership Essentials Certificate, a Medication Therapy Management Services Certificate, and a Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Certificate, among others. 

During his research experience, he worked alongside research advisor, Michelle Cudnik, PharmD, BCACP, to conduct the study "Impact of Treatment Regimens on Depression Symptoms and Glycemic Control (January 2015 - May 2015). The study focused on glycemic control and the effect it has on a patient's depression symptoms.
