Academically, Dr. Henderson obtained his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor in 1972. He then went on to perform his residencies in general surgery and orthopedic surgery at University Hospitals based in Cleveland, Ohio.

Following his training, he attained board certification in orthopedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

One of the most rewarding parts of orthopedic surgery is the ability to identify and define precisely what is causing the pain or symptoms of each patient. While the majority of patients' problems can be treated nonoperatively, when necessary, orthopedic surgery often can fix and restore the problem.
